Elizabeth Thomson graduated with a Master of Fine Arts from Elam School of Fine Arts, University of Auckland in 1991 and currently lives and works from her studio in Newtown, Wellington. Thomson’s work explores notions of representations within scientific fields, specifically referencing biology and physics. Considered one of New Zealand foremost artists, Thomson has a significant exhibition history with a major survey My Hi Fi My Sci Fi that was shown and toured nationally by the City Gallery, Wellington from 2006 until 2008. She was one of nine artists invited to take part in the Kermadec expedition in 2011, which resulted in exhibitions throughout New Zealand, Tonga, Easter Island (Rapa Nui), Santiago, Chile and the Tjibaou Cultural Centre, New Caledonia. Thomson continues to exhibit widely in New Zealand and overseas and her relief sculptures and printed works are held in major public and private collections both nationally and internationally.
